Museum Prinsenhof Delft and Delft Fringe Festival treat the city to a wonderful evening of dance and music. The setting is the impressive historic Van der Mandelezaal in the museum. The artists have created their choreography and music especially for this evening and location, matching the theme Old versus New.
The theme of the dance performance on Lichtjesavond ties in with both Museum Prinsenhof Delft and Delft Fringe Festival. The museum has a centuries-old history. First as the Sint Agatha convent where William of Orange was shot. Now it is a museum that also showcases work by modern artists. And soon it will close its doors for a major renovation.
Delft Fringe Festival offers play spaces to new makers. They are still discovering and conquering their place in the world of performing arts. They experiment within their own work and genre. Searching for boundaries and introducing audiences to today's world.
In the dance performance on Lichtjesavond, six dance makers explore what change means and what it can lead to. They take you through the stages of change that come with life. The ‘old familiar’ often feels comfortable. But change creates a game of rejection and attraction, of discomfort, adaptation and uncertainty. Frameworks are recreated.
The dancers perform their performances one after the other on a stage in the middle of the Van der Mandelezaal. In total, the programme lasts 50 minutes and can be seen three times.
Night of Lights in the Van der Mandelezaal is continuously open through the entrance on Oude Delft. The canal is attractively lit and inside it is warm and cosy. No tickets or reservations are needed. Entrance is free. The full programme plays three consecutive times this evening, at 19.00, 20.00 and 21.00. You can walk in at any time.
