Escape, me

Escape, me is een interactieve escape room performance waarin je de performer aanstuurt via een live chatroom.
Stel je voor: je komt binnen. Je neemt plaats. Op het podium staan rare, doch huiselijke spullen. De performer zit vastgeketend. Je krijgt aanwijzingen om in te loggen in een chatroom. Je volgt gewillig en typt de link in op je smartphone. Gretig typ je commando's om de performer aan te sturen. Schiet op, los de puzzels op! Je wil de performer koste wat kost bevrijden. Je wil een zo hoog mogelijke score neerzetten. Het roept een oerkracht in je op. De aftelklok blaast adrenaline door je lijf. Je rolt een dobbelsteen. Je vangt een vis. Het zijn de mooiste 25 minuten van je leven. Tenzij je verliest. Game over.
Om aan deze performance deel te nemen, heb je een smartphone of tablet met internettoegang nodig. Samenwerken op één toestel is uiteraard ook toegestaan.

Biografie
Teun Smeets (Enterteunment) studeerde onder andere psychologie, strafrecht en muziektheater en maakt interactieve performances over spiritualiteit, communicatie en technologie. Worden we allemaal vervangen door AI? Is deze biografie geschreven door ChatGPT? Kan Claude ons helpen om ons derde oog te openen? We zullen het nooit weten, maar Smeets probeert het in ieder geval uit te zoeken. Eerder was Wireful (2025) te zien op Kulturmødet Mors, H80 Festival en Spectaculo Geleen. Daarvoor was afstudeersolo Presenteert! (2024) te zien op ENTER Festival en de Gentse Feesten.

Imagine the following: You enter. You take a seat. The stage is filled with strange yet familiar objects. The performer is chained. You receive instructions to log into a chat room. You follow them without thinking and type the web link into your smartphone. Eagerly, you send commands to control the performer. Hurry — solve the puzzles! You want to free the performer no matter what. You want to set a new high score. It unlocks something primal in you. The countdown clock sends adrenaline coursing through your veins. You roll the dice. You catch a fish. These are the best 25 minutes of your life. Unless you lose. Game over.
To participate, you will need a smartphone or other device with internet access. Two people can share a device.

Biography
Teun Smeets (Enterteunment) studied psychology, criminal law, and musical theatre. They create interactive performances about spirituality, communication, and technology. Will we be replaced by AI? Was this bio written by ChatGPT? Can Claude help us open our third eye? We will probably never know — but either way, Teun is trying to figure it out.
Previously, Wireful (2025) played at Kulturmødet Mors, H80 Festival, and Spectaculo Geleen. Before that, graduation solo Presenteert! (2024) played at ENTER Festival and Gentse Feesten.
