Oost, west, thuis weg…

Wat betekent het om Indisch te zijn? In Oost, west, thuis weg… neemt Janne Groen je mee in haar zoektocht naar (h)erkenning van haar Indische identiteit. Ze reist naar de andere kant van de wereld met de hoop een innerlijke leegte te vullen. Kan Janne haar verlangen vervullen om te verbinden met haar vaders geboortegrond? En voldoet de werkelijkheid aan haar verwachtingen? In de vertolking van dit proces laat Janne dans, spoken word en live muziek versmelten. In samenspel met gitarist Seyoum Yuno en saxofonist Wytze Minne de Swart deelt ze open en eerlijk haar verhaal, met alle emoties van dien. Een voorstelling over verlangen, verlies en veerkracht. Omdat het gedeeld moet worden.

Biografie
Janne Groen (1996) is een veelzijdige dansmaker en performer die persoonlijke verhalen vertaalt naar interdisciplinair werk. Ze studeerde af aan de opleiding Artiest Dans Urban (Rijn IJssel) in Arnhem (2018) en de opleiding Docent Dans (AHK) in Amsterdam (2022). Haar bewegingstaal heeft invloeden uit contemporary, improvisatie, hiphop, popping en house. Vanuit een voortdurende zoektocht naar identiteit, verbinding en betekenis onderzoekt ze hoe innerlijke ervaringen een fysieke en artistieke vorm kunnen krijgen, verweven met spoken word en muziek. Ze creëert voorstellingen waarin persoonlijke vragen resoneren in een bredere maatschappelijke context.
Sinds 2022 doet Janne actief onderzoek naar haar Indische roots. Oost, west, thuis weg… is de eerste voorstelling die daaruit voortkwam en werd gepresenteerd tijdens het Nieuwe Makers Festival RRReuring 2025 in Podium Mozaïek (Amsterdam). Naast haar werk als maker is ze actief als danser, docent en begeleider binnen sociaal-maatschappelijke dansprojecten van o.a. Stichting ReDiscoverMe en Stichting De Vrolijkheid, i.s.m. het Nederlands Dans Theater.

What does it mean to be Indisch? Janne Groen takes you on her search for recognition and reconnection with her Dutch-Indonesian identity in the performance Oost, west, thuis weg… (East, West, Home Loss…). She travels to the other side of the world hoping to fill an inner void. Can she fulfil her longing to reconnect with her father's homeland? And will reality meet her expectations? In bringing this process to life, Janne weaves together dance, spoken word, and live music. Alongside guitarist Seyoum Yuno and saxophonist Wytze Minne de Swart, she shares her story openly and honestly, with all the emotions that come with it.A performance about longing, loss, and resilience. Because it needs to be shared.

Biography
*Janne Groen (1996) is a versatile dance-maker and performer who translates personal stories into interdisciplinary work. She graduated from the Artist Urban Dance programme at Rijn IJssel (Arnhem) in 2018, followed by the Bachelor Dance in Education at the Academy for Theatre and Dance (Amsterdam) in 2022. Her movement language draws from contemporary dance, improvisation, hip-hop, popping, and house. Driven by an ongoing search for identity, connection, and meaning, she explores how inner experiences and emotions can take physical and artistic form, weaving dance together with spoken word and music. She creates performances in which personal questions resonate within a broader social context, inviting audiences to feel and reflect.
Since 2022, she has been actively researching her Dutch-Indonesian roots. Oost, west, thuis weg… is the first performance to emerge from this research and was presented at the Nieuwe Makers Festival RRReuring 2025 at Podium Mozaïek (Amsterdam). In addition to her work as a maker, Janne is active as a dancer, teacher, and facilitator within community dance projects for o.a. Stichting ReDiscoverMe and Stichting De Vrolijkheid, in collaboration with the Nederlands Dans Theater.
