In een wanhopige poging haar ex te bereiken, komt Olivia tot de pijnlijke conclusie dat haar liefdesleven altijd verbonden zal zijn aan haar trans identiteit.
In Als de man van huis is gaat actrice en maker Elizabeth Wenting op zoek naar de positie van de trans vrouw in begeerlijke context. Want hoe verhoud je je tot seksualiteit en liefde in een wereld die jouw identiteit ter discussie stelt, en hoe vind je vervolgens veiligheid in je eigen lichaam en keuzes? In een serie vlotte theatrale monologen neemt Elizabeth je mee in het perspectief van de exoot, waarover een gevaarlijk dunne lijn tussen idolisme en afkeer bestaat.
De voorstelling is een pleidooi voor trans seksueel bestaansrecht en romantische authenticiteit. Als de man van huis is bevraagt de omgangsvormen die we stilletjes normaal zijn gaan vinden en welke rollen stereotypes en onze (geïnternaliseerde) transfobie daarin spelen, werkend vanuit zelfconstructie in plaats van destructie. Een la Voix Humaine met radicale zelfliefde als enige laatste redmiddel.

Biografie
Elizabeth Wenting (1997) heeft een grote interesse in wat mensen beweegt en het vertellen van verhalen. Ze studeerde aan de School voor Journalistiek in Utrecht en The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, en werkt als actrice, schrijfster, film- en theatermaker en gastdocent. Haar werk wordt getypeerd door de eeuwige hang naar verbinding, waarin ze haar eigen ervaringen inzet en thema's aanraakt als (trans- en queer)identiteit, mentale gezondheid en het intergenerationele. Met Als de man van huis is maakt ze haar solodebuut.

In When the Man's Away, actress and maker Elizabeth Wenting seeks to find the position of the trans woman in the context of desire. How do you relate to sexuality and love in a world that continues to question your identity? And how do you find safety in your own body and choices? In a series of quick theatrical monologues, Elizabeth explores the perspective of the exotic, a figure caught on a dangerously thin line between idolism and aversion.
The performance is a plea for trans sexual rights and romantic authenticity. When the Man's Away questions normalised social conventions and the roles stereotypes and our (internalised) transphobia play within them, working from self-construction instead of destruction. A La Voix Humaine, with radical self-love as the one and only remedy.

**Biography **
Elizabeth Wenting (1997) studied at the School voor Journalistiek in Utrecht and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. She works as an actress, writer, film and theatre maker, and guest lecturer. Her work is characterised by an everlasting longing for connection, in which she draws on her own experiences and touches on subjects like (trans and queer) identity, mental health, and the transgenerational. With When the Man's Away, she makes her solo debut.
